John David VanHoose, 81, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Paintsville, KY, went to be with the Lord, Friday, January 7, 2022. He was born in Paintsville, September 23, 1940, the son of the late Gordon R. (Jack) and Edna Robinson VanHoose.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his grandson, John Willian Cook (1997).
John served the Lord as a devoted member of the West Haven Baptist Church, for many years, as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and former Chairman of the Deacons and a previous member of the First Baptist Church in Paintsville. He retired from the City of Knoxville, as a plumbing inspector. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. John was an avid sportsman and loved fishing and squirrel hunting.
John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Prater VanHoose, a daughter, Jennifer Denise Ferdin (Jose) of Knoxville, TN and grandchild, Carter Drew Cook of Johnson City, TN; brothers, James G. VanHoose of Midway, KY and Robert B. VanHoose (Sharon) of Pensacola, FL; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Weaver’s Chapel with a service to follow at 6 p.m., with Rev. Ed Cloud, officiating. The burial will be in Paintsville, KY on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Upper Mayo Memorial Cemetery.
