Smith, John W. (Buddy), age 82, of Knoxville, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on Sunday, Sept 15, 2013. He was a longstanding member of Second United Methodist Church, Knoxville. Preceded in death by parents, Alex and Mollie Smith and Leona and Howard Haynes; sister, Patsy Hurst. Survived by loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Barbara Haynes Smith; son, Steven E. Smith, wife Sherry; daughter, Cheryl A. Clower, husband Ronald; grandchildren, Jason Smith, wife Annie, Kevin Smith, Matthew Smith, wife Stephanie, Justin Clower, Kristen Graham, husband Sydney; great-grandchildren, Emily and Gabe Smith, Samantha Graham; sisters, Bobbie Cole, Elizabeth Pressley, Laverne Maddox, husband Robert; brother, Carl Smith, wife Ragena; very close friends, John West, Marti Baker, Sandra and Jack Clower; many more friends and relatives. Buddy worked as a lineman and engineer for 45 years at AT&T. He was a Mason for over 50 years, worked with the FISH Organization, was involved for 10 years with food ministry at church, where he was a youth and adult Sunday School teacher for many years. A musician, he played the handbells at church, and sang in the choir for 50 years. He played and crafted dulcimers with a special group of people. Family will receive friends at Weaver Funeral Home, 6-8pm Tuesday, followed by an 8pm Chapel service. Rev. M.C. Taylor and Rev. Timothy Paul will officiate. Family and friends will gather at Weaver Funeral Home 10am Wednesday, for procession to Highland Memorial Gardens, for 11am interment services. Jason Smith, Kevin Smith, Matthew Smith, Justin Clower, Sydney Graham, and Bill Storey will serve as pallbearers.
