April 14, 1947 - December 3, 2024
Peacefully and surrounded by his loving family, John Henry Metcalf, 77, went to be with the Lord on December 3, 2024 after a courageous battle with serious medical issues in the recent months.
Even though a failing heart took him away from this world, his loving heart left those who remain with beautiful memories and life lessons they will cherish forever.
John was the classic example of hard work and dedication. He was a man of immense wisdom who cherished the stolen moments spent with his loved ones.
John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Roscoe and Johnnie Metcalf. John is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Shirley, who is known for her strength and unwavering support; his son, Gregory Scott (Patti), who will always remember his father’s love, support and guidance; his only grandson, the light of his life, John “Connor”; sister Vickie Gibson (Doyle), and many nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
The relationship between Connor and his pap was unmatched from day one. If you knew John, you know all about Connor, as he was his main topic of conversation and a great source of pride and joy.
Through the years, John was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist church, served in the U.S. Air Force, was a longtime and dedicated employee of Online Development, Inc. (a Softing Company), enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and grandson, photography, hunting, painting, and eating out with his family.
John’s commitment to his family, whom he loved faithfully and deeply, was unparalleled, often working long hours to ensure their comfort and security. The family will receive friends Monday December 9, 2024 from 1-2 p.m. at Berry Highland South
Services will be held at Berry Highland South Funeral on Monday December 9, 2024 at _2:00 p.m. Committal will follow at Berry Highland South Mausoleum.
