James C Weaver Jr.

James C. Weaver, Jr., age 96 of Powell, TN, passed away June 4, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Powell. James was in the U.S. Coast Guard and did his basic training and port security in New York during WWII. He was assigned to serve on the USS Ricketts DE 254, in the Pacific for a year during WWII. He later retired from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve as a Port Security Senior Chief. James also retired from the Oak Ridge Board of Education with 42 years of service with the Oak Ridge Schools. He was an avid gardener and loved to fish. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Eva McCoy Weaver; brothers, Kenneth, Wheeler and B.J.; sisters, Edna Mae and Charlene. Survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Mae Gregory Weaver; sons, Harold (Carla) Weaver of Colorado, Edward (Maureen) Weaver of Knoxville; daughter, Cheryl (Charles) LaRue of Knoxville, 4 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends Monday at Weaver’s Chapel from 6:00-7:00 pm with the service to follow. Family and friends will meet Tuesday at 12:45 pm at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for a 1:00 pm interment. Condolences may be left at weaverfuneralservices.com
