James Aaron Crowson

James Aaron (Jim) Crowson passed peacefully into heaven on April 13, 2018. He was born on November 17, 1922 and reared in Wear’s Valley (formerly known as Crowson Cove). When WWII began, Jim volunteered and joined the Army’s Signal Corps. He was stationed primarily in the Philippines and surrounding region. After the war, Jim returned to East Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering and began a 36 year career with Robertshaw Controls, Fulton Sylphon Division, in Knoxville. During his tenure there, he was awarded several patents. While at U.T., he met his future wife, Marion Clark. Their marriage lasted 65 years until her death on March 20, 2018. Jim and Marion were long time members of Church Street United Methodist Church. He was musically talented. He played the piano, organ and guitar. He was self-taught and played by ear. His home was filled with electronic devices he had pieced together from the scrap bin at work and he loved to tinker on various projects in his basement workshop. He was always interested in everything and loved to learn. Jim was patient, thoughtful and had a very gentle nature. His patience and methodical manner were especially evident while he worked with his special needs son, Danny. Because of Jim and Marion’s love and nurturing, Danny was able to live at home for 60 years and reach his highest potential. Jim loved his grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; his parents, William W. and Myrtle Crowson; sisters, Nell, Mabel and Lois; brothers, Ben and Bill. He is survived by his son Danny; daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Blake Thatcher; grandchildren, Jimmy (Rana) Thatcher, Carrie (Audric) Crouch and Will Thatcher; great-grandchild, Lucy Crouch and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Northshore Senior Living and Parkwest Hospital for their kind and competent work with Jim and Marion. We also want to thank Berry Funeral Home staff for their help during this difficult time.
