COOK, JACK DAVID, JR. - 51 of Powell, TN, formerly of Middlesboro, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011. He was a member of the Unity Church of Knoxville. Jack grew up in Middlesboro and was a 1977 graduate of Middlesboro High School. Following his graduation, Jack enlisted in the United State Air Force where he served from December 1977 until November 1981. During this time he attended Central Texas College and City Colleges of Chicago. Jack enlisted in the United State Army in August 1984 and served until November 1991. His service to his country allowed him to travel all around the world and make many friends. His love for music and talent for writing presented him many opportunities for people to enjoy his gift. Jack never met a stranger and anytime he was in a room it would light up. Jack loved to make people laugh and was loved by everyone who knew him. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Hill Cook; grandparents, Charles C. Cook and Grace Haddix Cook, Fred J. Hill and Ruth Spencer Hill. Jack is survived by his wife, Marcella "Marcia" Hammer; father, Jack D. Cook, Sr.; sister, Jill (Billy) Earl; stepsons, Nathan and Jacob Hernandez, Knoxville and Dr. Gabriel Sunn, Miami, FL; nephews, Jonathan (Tabitha) Griffin, David Griffin, Air Force First LT RN B. J. Earl and AF2nd LT RN Courtney of Niceville, FL; great-nephews, Mykel and Zakary Griffin; he will also be missed by several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave., Knoxville, TN. with a memorial service to start at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested in the form of donations in Jack' s memory to the Wellness Community, 2230 Sutherland Ave., Knoxville, TN 37919; the Southside Baptist Church, 410 Doncaster Ave., Middlesboro, KY 40965.
