Mynatt, Howard Gene, Knoxville - Gene Mynatt, age 74, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2020. Gene was a graduate of Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy and a veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a corpsman on the USNS Kawishiwi. He continued with a life of service working for 40 years with AT&T and more than 35 years as an official in three sports with the TSSAA. He loved to bowl, and he competed in several local leagues in the Knoxville area. Gene never met a stranger. He was extremely loyal and incredibly dependable. If he said he would be somewhere, you could count on him to be there and to be five minutes early. He was always good for a story with colorful details involving something that Gene just knew you’d “love.” As he would often say, “Hey, listen to this - you’ll love this...” Gene was married to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Patsy, for 55 years. He served his church as a deacon and never missed an opportunity to help meet the needs of others. He was a warm, compassionate person who cared for others in seemingly simple and ordinary ways. This was an obvious outgrowth of his faith in Jesus which Gene would say was the most important thing in his life. He is survived by his wife Patricia Ann “Patsy” (Parker) Mynatt; daughters Amy Welch and Ashley Mynatt; son Shane (Megan) Mynatt; grandchildren Jared Mynatt, Malachi Welch, Savannah, Saylor, Bauer and Isabella Mynatt, great-granddaughter Londyn Mynatt; sister Arita (Jack) Peters, sisters and brothers in law Etta Sue Humphries, Alice Hudgens, Butch (Rose) Parker, Tim (Lee Ann) Parker; and many special nieces and nephews.
