Howard "Jabo" Payne Hobbs, 82, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024. Jabo was an avid fisherman who never missed an opportunity to spend time at his houseboat on Norris Lake. His love for the outdoors, work ethic, and love for his family is what stood out most. He dedicated his time to instill in his grandchildren his passion for nature and valuable life lessons, ensuring that weekends at the lake became not just fond memories, but a shared legacy of love for one another as well as the outdoors.
Preceded in death by his parents, Huey and Leona Hobbs; grand-daughter Miranda Glenn; brothers Olen, Ralph, and Troy Hobbs; his sister Juanita Hobbs; and daughter-in-law Sandy Hobbs.
Jabo is survived by his "best catch," Brenda Hobbs, who has been his loving and devoted wife for 65 years. His children Michael (Barbara Turner) Hobbs and Howard (Cynthia) Hobbs; grand-children Jared (Caroline) Hobbs, Matthew (Sarah) Hobbs, Brandon (Kristen) Hobbs, Blake (Alexis) Hobbs, Aaron Glenn, Evan (Katie) Glenn; great-grandchildren Alexis (Logan Wallace) Hobbs, Jayden Hobbs, Sutten Hobbs, and Bo Rucker. Jabo is also survived by his siblings Wanda Waggoner and Dale Hobbs.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Miranda Glenn's name to Children's Cancer Hospital of Knoxville. Donations can also be made to St. Jude's Hospital or Shriner's Temple of Knoxville.
The family welcomes friends to honor Jabo's life at Berry Highland South on Friday January 12th, from 5-7 p.m. There will be a private graveside service the following day.
As we say goodbye, let us all remember Jabo, and be thankful for the love he gave and the lasting memories we will all cherish, especially the laughter and lessons he shared with his family by the lake.
