Helen W. Payne

PAYNE, Helen Margaret Poss Witt, born August 12, 1921 in Anniston, Alabama and passed away January 27, 2014. Helen was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and sang in both the Main Choir and the Silver Tones Choir. She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Arzena Poss and brother, Odis Poss, all of Weaver, Alabama; sister, Lois Brooks Purdon of Knoxville and husbands, James L. (Ted) Witt and Parris (Pete) Payne, both of Knoxville and son-in-law, John R. Hays, Jr. Helen is survived by her loving daughters, Terri Witt Hays and Pam Witt Douglas; grandchildren, Timothy Lynn(Tammy) Johnson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stephanie Hays, Shelli Hays, Teresa Johnson (Chris) Olson, Natali Hays (Shawn) Winters, John Douglas, Jr., of Knoxville and Josh (Jennifer) Douglas, of Temple, Georgia; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Thank you to her special caregivers at NHC St. Mary’s. The family will receive friends from 10:30am-12:00pm on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918. The funeral service will begin at 12:00pm with Dr. Charles Earl officiating and music under the direction of Rev. Mike Bundon. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
