George L. Bailey, III, born May 6, 1944 in Monterey, CA passed away July 8, 2021 in Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna (Onkst) Bailey and parents, George L. and Elizabeth (Wilson) Bailey.
He is survived by his daughters, Tara Bailey and Chris Bailey, brother Robert (Linda) Bailey, grandson Jacob Bailey, niece Autumne (Shawn) Harding, great-niece Bailey Gray Harding, daughter-in-law Leta Sheperd, cousin Judy Nichols and many friends.
George grew up in Chattanooga and attended First Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Chattanooga High School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. During college, he joined the Army ROTC and after graduating, served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. George retired from White Lily Foods Co. in Knoxville after twenty years of service as the Warehouse Manager.
George was a life-long car enthusiast, like his brother, building numerous ‘hot rod’ cars throughout his lifetime and meeting many friends along the way. His daughters want to thank his ‘car buddies’ for sharing their time and energy as he continued working on cars until his death.
The family will receive friends, Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in the parlors of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville, Tennessee, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Family and friends will meet Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404, for a 12:30 PM graveside service with military honors.
