Buford Eugene (Gene) Galyon, of South Knoxville and Seymour, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the age of 90 after a brief illness. Gene proudly served in the Army and the Marine Corps Reserve. He retired from the maintenance team of Sevier Heights Baptist Church after 30 years of dedicated service to the church he loved so much and continued to actively support after retirement. His quiet, humble, and steadfast devotion to Jesus Christ shone bright though his servant attitude and endeared him to all. Those who knew him have fond memories of him whistling and humming, no matter what he was doing. We will miss him dearly.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Iva Geraldine (Jerry) Galyon; mother and father George and Zella Galyon and his three sisters: Bernice Eggers, Bea Rimmer, and Dora Myers.
He is survived by son, Ricky (Terri) Galyon; daughters, Pam Galyon and Suzanne (Curtis) Allin; many nieces including, Cindy Ogle; nephews; grandchildren: Tyler (Kaci) Galyon, Kara (Brian) Howard, Curtis Allin, Taylor Allin; great-grandchildren: Ronan, Ainsley, Elowen Galyon, Felix Howard; great nephew, Thomas Ogle and great-great nephew, Trey Ogle.
A 1:00 PM graveside service will be held for family and close friends on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville with Rev. Chris Morgan officiating. Military Honors will be provided by East Tennessee Volunteer State Honor Guard.
