Hurst, Emily Dempster, age 53 of South Knoxville, entered the glorious Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, February 21, 2010 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Emily was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. As a Knox County school teacher, Emily first taught at West End Academy, then Sunny View Elementary School and then at South Doyle Middle School. Emily was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden. Preceded in death by her father, Richard Reeder Dempster; brother, Richard R. Dempster, Jr.; grandparents, James and Fay Reeder Dempster and James and Lula Starnes Snodgrass. Survivors include husband, Patrick G. Hurst; sons, Nicholas P. and Parker D. Hurst; mother, Emily S. Dempster; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Janet Dempster, Stephen and Elaine Dempster and Ross and Cynthia Dempster; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Douglas Klein; sister-in-law, Rebecca Wallace; father and mother-in-law, Glen and Sue Hurst; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Jean Hurst and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank South Doyle Middle staff, Holston Middle staff, Dr. James Lewis, Dr. Stephen Miller, Dr. Anna Sabih, Melanie Boring, RN, Caris Hospice and close friends and family for your love and support. A special thanks to Becky Bell, Janet Dempster and Jean Hurst for your special care. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 23, 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy. A memorial service, celebrating Emily’s life will be held 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, in the auditorium of South Doyle Middle School.
