Earl Franklin Scates

Earl Franklin Scates, age 87, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Monday, June 3, 2024. He was a long-time resident of Knoxville, TN. He was a member of Beach Grove Baptist Church and retired from Rice Oldsmobile. He loved Tennessee football, taking care of the lawn and most of all his family.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Wanda McClure Scates; son, Larry Scates; step-daughter and special caregiver, Wendy Nabors; step-son, William Ray Nabors; granddaughter, Karen (Joseph Paul) Byrd; step grandchildren, Logan & Johnathon Nabors; great grandchildren, Kaleb & Kayden Cox; sister, Sandra (Kenny) Eubanks; sisters-in law, Jane Scates, Pam McClure, Martha Humphries, Teresa Tuck and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by Geneva Kear Scates wife of 47 years; parents, Luke and Allie Scates and brothers, Luther Freels & Nathan ( Ruth) Scates.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services to follow at 7:00 pm at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, located at 5315 Kingston Pike. A graveside service will be Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
