E. Ray Herrell

SMSGT Ret. Herrell, Edward Ray, age 77, passed away October 6, 2022. Mr. Herrell retired from the U.S. Air National Guard after 28 years of service, and was a U.S. Army Veteran (Vietnam Era). He was proud to be an American and to have served his country. Mr. Herrell was a Ret. Captain of the City of Knoxville Fire Department after serving for 33 years. He was a graduate of Holston High School in 1963 and a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his father and mother, James W. and Doshia (Acuff) Herrell; his wife of 48 years, Janice Owen Herrell; son, Robert Brett French; and sister-in-law, Stephanie Herrell. Mr. Herrell is survived by his daughter, Donna Jan (Lon) Wineland; sons, Brian Edward (Edana) Herrell, Bradley Ray Herrell, and Derek (Joanna) French; brother, O. Glenn Herrell of San Jose, CA; sister, Brenda Harrell; 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, October 10, 2022 at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 W Adair Dr. Knoxville, TN 37918, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Dandridge Memorial Gardens, 845 Hwy 25W 70, Dandridge TN 37725, Monday, October 10, 2022 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 7535 Maynardville Hwy Knoxville, TN 37938.
