I just saw this very sad news and am so sorry I missed it as I moved out of state many years ago. Dr. Peccolo was an absolute light of encouragement during my second stint at UT to get my PhD. I got to know her through the Dean's Graduate Student Advisory Board and was amazed how she could take every single person- from very different fields- and connect with each of us, support us, and encourage us. She had us all over to her home for homemade pizza in their backyard pizza oven and would do anything to help us in our journey. She will be tremendously missed, but I know that her kindness lives on in each of us who was graced by her caring mentorship. 

I had the privilege of working with Dulcie for two years. She was extraordinary as a coworker and friend.   I treasure my time spent with her.

I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to reach out to you.  I’m so sorry for your loss; which is a tragic loss for all who knew Dulcie.  She was actually the first person I met when I first arrived in Knoxville for my interview for the dean’s position in our College.  I knew that after meeting Dulcie, I was in the right place and would be blessed to have the opportunity to work with her and the other fine people at UTK.  Butch, also from being from Italian descent, I knew that we would be close friends   You and Dulcie were so very kind to bring me and my daughters food when I was in the hospital after suffering my stroke.  I’ll never forget your and Dulcie’s kindness, nor will my girls, Carly and Lindy.  I know this message is late, but please know how much I loved Dulcie and respected her for the amazing way sh treated our students and colleagues.  There was only one Dulcie Peccolo and there will never be another.

I remember Dulcie with great fondness from our time spent together as part of a graduate fellowship.  She was smart, great fun, and dedicated to her family and her work.  It is easy to understand the accolades she received from UTK.  My heart is with her family.

"Ms Dulcie," as I know her, was the Shelley Long to my mom's Mary Gross, and I will always think of her watching Troop Beverly Hills.  I remember chickenpox sleepovers, funnel cakes, strawberries & powdered sugar, watching Dirty Dancing, campouts inclusive of multiple packed coolers filled with snacks like lays & french onion dip, her love and her laugh.  All my love to the Peccolo Family!  

Dulcie was one of my dearest friends. We shared so many moments through Farragut Presbyterian Church, Girl Scouts and just gatherings among friends.
A gracious hostess, kindest and supportive friend. I have grieved all these days since her death and sorrow comes over me at the lost.

Dear Butch, Jessica & Meredith,
Words cannot fully express how truly sorry I am for your loss of an amazing wife and loving mother.  It's taken me a couple of days to write this because I needed to compose my thoughts because I was still in disbelief.  Dulcie had a personality that was bigger than life and made all of us want to gravitate around her and because she had a gift from God of just making people feel good about themselves like they were the most important person in this world and could conquer anything they set their mind on.  I first met her in 2001 when she sat on a search committee to bring me home from Georgia Tech to UT.  From there the rest is history as she simply became probably my favorite people on campus until I left at the end of 2015 to accept a job at UAB.  We would grab lunch and solve the worlds problems because earlier in the week we had probably already solved all of UT's problems...at least in our minds.  My parents are from Nebraska so she loved that and we laugh together and then mourn together when people like Dr. Grady Bogue, Marva Rudolph, or Dr. Joy DeSensi left us.  My mother stills laughs about when she came to my holiday part based off of the Seinfeld episode "Festivus" was she got a donation in her name to the Human Fund with the Festivus pole out back to air out any grievances as you have to know the show to appreciate.  She was my friend, colleague, advocate, and champion as she believed this ol' boy from Powell in a wheelchair could do it all and unwavering belief and confidence is hard to find in this world.  I apologize for being verbose s as I could write a book on Dulcie but I regret not telling her I loved her and how she made me a better be person.  This world has lost an angel that will be looking down on us but there is no doubt she changed this world and is probably already up in heaven making sure it is all organized and ready for us.  May God bless you three once again as I pray for you and your families.

Who could compare to Dulcie? Her infectious personality will live on in those who love her. She enamored and entertained us with her charm, quick wit, positive energy and love of fun! But she was also kind, compassionate and  empathetic. Dulcie was so welcoming  
that even those of us on the periphery of her life felt a sense of belonging when we were in her presence. 
Most people know of Dulcie's outstanding impact on education and her students.  Those of us in her church family are also so grateful and indebted to Dulcie for her many years of leadership she devoted to Farragut Presbyterian, as a session elder, Sunday School teacher and Girl Scout Leader. She believed in dreams and led by example in every aspect of her life. Butch, Jessica and Meredith , we are so sorry for your loss.
I think Dulcie would especially want Callum, Catelynne and Connor to remember this quote by A. A. Milne:

July 24,1968 , first time I meet Dulcie!!!!! She had on a pink and yellow bikini and a smile as big as the pool,WOW I thought! In the last 53yrs I’ve laughed to the point of tears every time I’ve been around her. Just an amazing person!!

Dulcie was truly one of a kind.  Someone who lit up the room whenever you were with her.  I was lucky to have her come into my life during our teenage years where she remained a cherished lifelong friend.  Our entire family adored her.  We are all deeply sorry for your loss.

My heart just broke when I heard of Dulcie's passing.  I can't believe it.  She is one of the kindest, friendliest, caring, and upbeat persons I've known.  Her spirit and and laughter were infectious and it was  a joy to just be around her.  She always made me feel like a million bucks - I think my self-esteem tripled every time I was with her because she was just so gracious and interested in what was going on in my life. Dulcie was one in a million. I met her when I was attending ELPS for my doctorate, and she was always so kind and classy. Though I did not know her as well as I wish I had, every interaction I had with her was positive and she was (and is) well-respected as a colleague and friend by so many at UTK.

I have been on the faculty at the University of Tennessee since 2000, and just retired.  Dulcie and I were only a year apart in age. I worked in the same college with Dulcie, with the students she advised to take our courses.  I was dept head with her on the Dean's Executive Council, under Dean Ryder, and worked with her to develop an undergraduate service learning certificate for education students.  Please know it was a joy to work with Dulcie, a truly gracious and kind person.  Dulcie was a wonderful model of professionalism, always.  I also know she was cooking and sharing meals with Joy DeSensi as Joy battled cancer, and that loving kindness was much appreciated by Joy, who hired me at UT.  I am so sad to receive the news of Dulcie's passing, we have lost a true sweetheart.  I am so glad to know she was able to retire and enjoy some time with y'all, post UT. Butch, I was so sorry to hear about your wife.  Many years ago I worked for your Dad at the Bureau of Educational Research and Service at UT-K, and you were working in the BERS part-time while finishing your degree.  I never met Dulcie but heard wonderful things about her during the time I was working on my Ph.D. at UT and during recent years while teaching at PSCC.  You and your daughters are in my prayers. I am just dumbstruck by this news of Dulcie's passing.
For the last two years, it seems that at every important milestone of PSCC and just about every board meeting, (since the day she was sworn in as a Foundation trustee), Dulcie was THERE. SO supportive of the college's efforts.
I joked with her that I was her own personal photographer.

I was blessed to know Dulcie for many years through her work on many university scholarship committees and honors programs.  Few people could match her positivity and enthusiasm.
