Don Roy Carr, born March 22, 1933, age 89, went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2022.Don grew up in South Knoxville and joined the Navy just before he turned 18 years old. He received his GED while serving in the Navy aboard the USS Boxer. After his military service he worked in Oak Ridge at Y-12, for 33 years as a Machinist, then in the Gage lab and Supervision where he retired. During his time at Y-12 he had a 15 passenger van where he drove other employees from Seymour to Oak Ridge for work. Don was involved in the local community as a Coach of Little League, baseball and football. He was President of the Seymour Optimist Club and started the first T-Ball League at Bower Field in Knoxville. During his time as President Don and Jerry Davis went to Washington D.C. to present Jay Edgar Hoover a plaque for his service to the country. Don was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church for 50 plus years. He is preceded in death by his father Raymond Carr and mother Cora Carr and brothers Raymond Jr., Hubert and Bill. Don is survived by his wife of 67 years Nila Aldridge Carr; children Donnie (Mitzi) Carr, Joe (Vicki) Carr, and Sandra "Sunny" (Dave) Bailey and grandson Carrson Bailey. A special thank you and expression of gratitude for the excellent care provided by the nurses and staff from P.C.M. The nurses expressed love and appreciation for Don's pleasant attitude and sense of humor. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Valley Grove Baptist Church's Building Fund in his honor. Family and friends will meet at Berry Highland South Cemetery on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 10:45am for an 11am Graveside Service in the Garden of Gospels.
