David graduated from West High in 1957. He was active in the National Guard and later worked at Rohm & Haas for 36 years. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior when he was 19 years old. He faithfully served as a deacon and sunday school teacher for over 65 years. He also ran the bus ministry for over 10 years.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Virginia Matthews; brother, Jimmy Matthews; He will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Phyllis Matthews, they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Christmas Eve; children, Tony (Laura), Michelle (Jeff) and Rick; grandchildren, Kenzie Matthews, Logan Matthews, Baylor Anders, Chloe Anders (Connor Kent), Annabelle Matthews; great grandson, Zion Matthews; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Barbara Tipton; special fur babies, Sunni and Pippa.
Receiving of friends and family will be held for David on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home from 5-7pm with a funeral service to follow, Mr. Greg Debusk officiating. David will be laid to rest on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 11am at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery, Mr. Greg Tipton officiating.
