David Michael Hicks

David Michael Hicks (Papaw) - age 69, received his wings and went Home on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Husband, Father, Grandfather and Soldier, he retired from the U.S. Army where he served for 21 years, including tours in Vietnam. After retirement he spent most of his time with his family, hobbies and his many dogs and cats.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert M. Hicks and Margaret D. and Layton K Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 28 years, Cindy; children, Greg and wife Hollie Hicks, Kelly Hicks, Samantha and husband Wesley Hester and Rick Bishop; grandchildren, Jessica and husband David Corbin, Austin Weaver and Tiara, Trevor Hicks, Jeremy Hicks, Kayla and husband Brandon Akins, Ian Hester, Merric Gresham, Addison Bishop, Jake Hicks and Jax Hicks; great-grandsons, Hunter Weaver and Kenai Hicks; brothers, Rick and Susan Hicks, Dean Hicks and Duane and Susan Hicks; several nieces and nephews and other family members.

The family will receive friends at Piney Grove Baptist Church, in Knoxville, on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 5pm. A full military graveside service will be held at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on November 5, 2021 at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or to your local animal shelter.
