Houser, Daniel W. (Danny) (Dan), born October 23, 1951, entered the Gates of Heaven on February 8, 2016, after a brave, hard-fought four year battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). He was a dedicated son, husband, father, papaw, brother, uncle, and friend. His word was his bond and his handshake was his commitment. Danny was a steady, reliable and loyal friend who asked for little but always gave his all. He was saved by God’s grace and baptized at Fort Hill Baptist Church. After graduation from South High School in 1969, he spent four years in the United States Air Force serving his country in the Philippines as an Air Traffic Controller. Upon his return to Knoxville, he began a career at Kern’s Bakery (later becoming Sara Lee and Bimbo’s until the doors closed in 2013) that lasted almost forty years. He was a faithful, committed employee whose work ethic was exemplary. Danny was a racing enthusiast and was well-versed in all issues pertaining to NASCAR. Preceding Danny in death were his parents, Bart W. Houser (1984) and Colleen Daniels Houser (2005). He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, JoAnn Boggs Houser; daughter, Brenda Brogan and husband, Tony; grandchildren: Zachary and fiancée Stephanie; Erika, Jessica, and Brea; great-grandson, Parker all of Kingston, Tennessee; sisters and brothers-in-law, LaVerne (Ann) and Richard Montgomery of Seymour; Kathy and Jim Jones of Knoxville. Danny is also survived by nieces and their husbands, Megan and Monte Miller and their daughters, Josie and Georgia of Knoxville; Ashley and Scott Zani and their daughters, Catie and Mikayla of Churchill, Tennessee. Treasured and deeply appreciated are his friends Larry and Tammy Strunk and George Oglesby. A memorial service conducted by Reverend Jack Dean of Central Church of God will be held on Friday evening, February 12th at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home.
