Clara Balentine Morton, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 2, 2016. Clara was born on April 26, 1924 to the late Elmer and Manilla Balentine in Tuscumbia, Alabama. On July 3, 1942, Clara married the love of her life, William Edward Morton, and shared 65 blessed years together until his death in 2007. Clara was a longtime member of Cumberland Baptist Church, serving many years as a Sunday School teacher and in the Senior Choir until illness would not allow her to do so any longer. Clara was best known for her love of and dedication to the sport of bowling; due to her 50 years of service she was inducted into four Halls of Fame. In 1985 she was inducted into the Tennessee Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame; in 1992 she was inducted into the Smoky Mountain USBC “Clara Morton – Ed Erwin” Hall of Fame; in 1995 she was inducted into the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2001 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she was inducted into the United States Bowling Hall of Fame. Clara was a mentor and a leader in the sport of bowling, but more importantly, she was a beloved and respected friend. Clara is survived by her niece, Linda Wilson and great-niece, Courtney Wimmer, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and great-niece, Whitney Reasor, of Indianapolis, Indiana; special friends, Joyce McMahon and Polly Maples of Knoxville, Colleen Parnicza of Mountsville, WV, the Underwood family of Tuscumbia, AL, and many bowling, community, and church friends.
