Born November 29, 1941, at Duke University Medical Center, he was the only son of George Lindsay and Blanche Geneva (nee Atkins) Robbins. Raised in Annandale, Virginia, he graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1966. A civil servant for thirty-six years, his career would take him to Moline, Illinois; Huntsville, Alabama; Jacksonville, Florida; Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Zweibruecken, Germany; Middletown, Maryland; Dale City, Virginia; Heidelberg, Germany; Burke, Virginia; and Centreville, Virginia before retiring to Knoxville, Tennessee in 2001. His awards include a Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Army.
He was an avid Tennessee Volunteer fan, a tremendous genealogist, and a master gardener. He was a member of The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, The Order of the Founders and Patriots of America, and the Clan Robertson.
He is predeceased by his parents and only sister, Olga Ann Cagan. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emily Carol (nee Guy), son Matthew Christopher (Teresa) of Knoxville, daughters Suzanne (Michael) McDonald of Gainesville, Florida, Christine (Stephen) Murray of Leesburg, Virginia and Elizabeth (David) Robinson of Southern Pines, North Carolina, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 11 am to 12 pm at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919. There will be a Chapel Service at 12 pm with interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of his wife Carol to the Alzheimer's Association.
