Carolyn Griffith Gilley Worsley

Worsley, Carolyn Griffith Gilley, age 71, born in Knoxville, Tennessee, peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior with her family by her side, on November 8, 2018 at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, Florida.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hiram B. and Dorothy H. Griffith, Jr.; and husband Kenneth G. Gilley.

She is survived by her sisters, Nancy L. Dietz of Knoxville, TN, Linda G. Luce (Robert) of Charlotte, NC; nieces, Lisa D. Heidmann (John) of Knoxville, TN, and Courtney Luce of Charlotte, NC; and Roger Worsley of The Villages, FL.

Carolyn graduated from East Tennessee State University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and was chosen to be a Little Sister of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. She taught in the lower elementary grades for 25 years in Tennessee, Connecticut and Ohio. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1986-1987 at Fairfield Elementary School in Pickerington, Ohio. While living in the Atlanta area, she became involved and held an office with the American Cancer Society in Gwinnett County.

Carolyn loved to travel and was an avid golfer in Atlanta, as well as The Villages. She enjoyed many activities in The Villages and the wonderful friends she was blessed to have spent time with. Carolyn was also a devoted UT football and Lady Vols fan. She always had a smile on her face, a kind word for all, and a fabulous sense of humor.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919, with a Celebration of Life Service to immediately follow at 7:00 pm officiated by Agnes Mayila . There will be a Graveside Service for family on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
