Calvin and Louise were the parents of six children: Robert Houser; Jan Thomas (Claude); Norman Houser (Mary); Anne Jackson (Rusty); David Houser (Linda); and Brian Houser (Regina). He will be greatly missed by his beloved grandchildren, whom he infused with a sense of the majesty of God’s Creation: Cristy Aptaker (Gene); Cara Mousa; Brett Thomas; Eric Thomas (Eydie); Brandon Thomas (Susan); Heath Thomas (Jill); John Houser; Joe Houser (Jennifer); David Michael Houser (Amy); Matthew Houser (Halie); Jordan Houser (Hannah); Jennifer Jackson Goldberg (Michael); Justin Jackson (Lindsey); Josh Jackson; and Julianne Jackson Smith (Adam). Twenty-four cherished great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren will be enriched by stories of their granddaddy. Calvin is survived by two sisters, Mary Nell Williamson and Eula Mae Garner (Ralph). He is predeceased by his brothers Kyle; Kenneth; Curtis; Barton; and Louis, and by his infant sister Lavenia Jane.
One of “The Greatest Generation,” Calvin served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church for decades and retired from the Alcoa Corporation.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 from 5 to 7 pm in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, with the service to follow at 7 pm. Dr. Claude Thomas will officiate. Interment will be 11 am, Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Berry Highland South Cemetery. His loving grandsons will be pallbearers.
