Galyon, Betty Paxton, of Knoxville, was born September 9, 1921 in Bristol, VA. She was the daughter of Myrtice Culton and Charles Edward Paxton. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Luthur Anderson Galyon, II, and her son Luther Anderson Galyon, III. She attended Knoxville Schools and graduated from Knoxville High School and the University of Tennessee and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She was employed by Ft. Sanders Medical Center from 1982 to mid 1990 as their patient representative. She and her husband were long time members of the Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church where they taught Sunday School for many years. She was an active member in the Junior League of Knoxville. She also held memberships in the Nine O’clock Cotillion, The Mothers Book Club, The Smart Club and The Colonial Dames of America. Her great love was gardening. She held memberships in both the Knoxville Garden Club and The Garden Study Club and served as president of both organizations. She was a Master Gardener and ardent pursuer of wild flowers.
She is survived by Hallie Hope Galyon; sister-in-law; by son Paxton Jeffries and wife Kathy, by son John Culton and wife Carole; daughter-in-law Victoria Galyon; grandchildren, John Paxton and Hallie Kathleen, Luther Anderson Galyon, IV and wife Martha, and William Davis Galyon and wife Lauren; great-grandchildren, Martha Anderson Galyon and Hallie Jane Galyon.
Memorial Service will be Thursday at 4 pm at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. Donations may be made to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian, 3700 Keowee Ave., Knoxville, TN 37919.
