Arthur Mitchell “Mitch” Taylor, age 78, passed away peacefully at home March 11, 2024. Mitch had an infectious smile and a quick wit. Even in the days leading up to his death he would tell you he was “fabulous” and boy was he. If you needed a laugh or a walk down memory lane and a good story, Mitch was always there with a good joke or a wonderful story. He was loved by all who met him and as humble as they come.
Mitch was a lifelong resident of Knoxville. He graduated from The McCallie School, where he was inducted into KEO-KIO, a senior leadership organization recognizing contributions to and leadership within the school. After graduating from McCallie, he returned to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army reaching the rank of First Lieutenant and serving in South Korea. After returning home from service, Mitch was the co-owner of Squires Liquor with his twin brother, George. Later, he excelled in commercial real estate at Collins Sharp & Koella, finishing his career at Avison Young. He distinguished himself in the industry by earning two of the most prestigious designations - Certified Commercial Investment Manager (CCIM) and Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR).
Mitch treasured and remained close with his many childhood friends and their families. They loved Mitch for his quick wit and joke telling. He loved boat rides with his grandchildren and picking them up from school. He only took thirty seconds to turn a stranger into a friend. Mitch couldn’t sit still and was always very active. He loved his annual hikes to LeConte Lodge with classmates from McCallie. Mitch loved to travel so long as he didn’t have to leave town. He did, however, recount freely and often, stories of his skiing, diving and sailing trips with friends. Mitch was first and foremost a wonderful story teller. Most of the stories were based in truth.
Mitch was preceded in death by father and mother, Jerome Gregg and Bessie M. Taylor; brother, Jerome Gregg Taylor, Jr and twin, George Caldwell Taylor II. He is survived by wife, Patricia Taylor; daughters, Jaime Conry and Katherine LaDage; grandchildren, Abigail Waldschmidt, Owen and Ethan LaDage; brother, Alex Taylor (Lynn); sister-in-laws, Wanda and Sally Taylor; nieces and nephews, Alex Jr., Cornelia, Gregg, Read, Jesse and Katie and many loving cousins.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 23rd, 2:30 PM at Bridgewater Place Event Center, located at 205 Bridgewater Drive in Knoxville.
