Preceded in death by husband, Melvin Waldrop in 2000; parents, J.O. and Amanda King; brother, Vic King and wife Cynthia; brother Jim King.
Mrs. Waldrop is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Larry) Henderson, The Villages FL, son, David (Dawn) Waldrop, Lexington KY, grandchildren: Kevin (Darla) Henderson, Boston MA, Laura Whitlock, Campbellsville KY, Danielle (Blake) Brewer, Campbellsville KY, Mark Henderson, Denver CO, and Brett (Lexy) Waldrop, Lexington KY, great grandchildren: Ryan Tucker, Avery Tucker, Anna Henderson, William Henderson, and Tanna Brewer. She is also survived by her special sisters-in-laws, Charlotte King and Marsha Wells, many nephews and nieces, as well as several lifelong friends in Knoxville TN.
Ruth was a graduate of Knoxville High School and the University of Tennessee. Music was a big part of her life and she was a superb musician on both the organ and the piano. She has served as pianist or organist for churches in the Philippines, Biloxi MS, Shreveport LA, Knoxville TN and still enjoyed playing for church after she moved to Lexington KY.
Ruth worked for many years for Shelby Mutual Insurance Company, retiring in 1997. After moving to Lexington, she continued to be involved in church and also spent many hours knitting and crocheting dozens of blankets each year for donation through Warm Up America.
Private burial in Knoxville Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Berry-Highland Memorial Cemetery. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
