She was a joy and inspiration to so many, including her family, during her time on earth. Allene was born in Jefferson City, Tennessee on January 6, 1923. After graduating from Carson-Newman College in 1943, where she sang in the Acapella Choir, she worked for Tennessee Eastman in Oak Ridge, TN. After marriage, she and her husband made their home in Knoxville. She was very active in her community – a charter member of Akima Club, founder of Welcome Wagon in Knoxville and a volunteer Gray Lady for Eastern State Mental Institution. She owned and operated Westland for the Bride for many years where she provided wonderful memories for couples on their special day.
She moved to Colchester Court Condominiums in 2000 where she had many dear friends that brought laughter and warmth into her life. In her last years, she made her home at South High Senior Living where she was loved and cared for by the incredible staff for which her family is eternally grateful. A special recognition is extended to UT Hospice Services who were so attentive and treated Allene with dignity and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William Richard Miller; parents, Mode and Pearl Allen; sister, Lady Kate Catlett; son, Richard Allen Miller and her grandson, Wesley Stanley.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Whitney Stanley; son-in-law, Monte Stanley; grandchildren: Brett Stanley, Maida Stanley Lara (husband Angel), Bill Stanley (wife Meri); great grandchildren: Gavin Stanley, Lilly Stanley, Jackson Lara, Sam Lara, Ferrell Fagiola and Tony Hernandez.
