Married for almost 60 years to Dave (Laloo) predeceased. Mother to Steven “Skinner” (Susan) and Peter (Jennifer). Cherished grandma to Aaron.
Predeceased by her sister, Susan Maharaj, her parents, and niece Melissa. Fondly remembered by her many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews both in Canada and Trinidad.
Shrimati was born in Trinidad in 1935. She earned her teacher’s degree in Trinidad and taught for several years as well as helping out with the family store. During her time as a teacher, she met Dave Sieunarine. In the early 1960’s Dave moved to England and Shim joined him the following year. They wed in October 1964 and immigrated to Canada in November that same year, setting up home in Galt (now Cambridge). Eventually the family moved to Waterloo and Kitchener. They were blessed with two sons, Steven and Peter. Shim and Dave were also blessed with one grandson, Aaron, whom they loved deeply.
Shim and Dave were proud to be able to sponsor many family members and friends to immigrate to Canada and to see them flourish here. Shim held several jobs over the years, but her main job for many decades was feeding the many people who were regularly in their home or on the cricket field.
Dave loved and lived for cricket in Trinidad, England and Canada and Shim was on hand for it all. Dave and Shim loved travelling and enjoyed many trips throughout the world, including some trips that included cricket matches and tournaments.
After Dave’s passing in May of this year, Shim made the decision to move to Trinity Village. She thrived in her new environment. She enjoyed the freedom of being independent and the social interaction with the other residents. Knowing that someone on staff was around if she needed assistance gave her peace of mind. We as a family are very thankful to the staff at Trinity Village for all their love and care of our dear mother.
