Robert John Hendry of London, Ontario passed away peacefully in his 91st year on July 23, 2022. Predeceased in 2015 by his beloved wife of 63 years and dearest friend since the age of 16, Elsie Elizabeth Hendry (nee Thornton). Father of Steve (Linda), Linda (Rod), Evan, Alison (Pat), and Leigh Ann. Granddad to Amy (Jeff), Erin, Paul (Emma), Alex (Ebony), Erica, Danielle, and Samuel. Great Granddad to Lilly, Elise and Rose.
Bob supported his large family through his sales careers at Culligan, Petro Fina Canada, Canada Post and Royal LePage before his retirement.
Bob’s passions included hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, and sailing. He loved the outdoors, particularly Algonquin Park and as well, spent many years enjoying sailing his boat, the “Elsie II” on Fanshawe Lake and Georgian Bay. He had a great appreciation for humour, animals, and a love of dogs. He took the time to share with and teach his passions and pastimes to his children and grandchildren, for them to also enjoy in their lives.
“Big Bad Bob” was a character who enjoyed a good practical joke, particularly if he was on the receiving end. Over the years, his family and friends endeavoured to “get him back” however, we all likely still owe him one.
Throughout his life and even while fighting his medical conditions towards the end, Bob maintained his sense of humour and acceptance of life’s challenges and outcomes with a positive attitude. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnyside Home for their kindness and care over the last few months of Bob’s life.
A private family celebration of his life will be held to honour his last wishes.
