Passed away peacefully at Victoria Place on February 8th, 2017 in her 102nd year. Predeceased by her husband Earl Rickert in 1994 after 57 years of marriage. Also predeceased by her brothers Wilbert, Elgin, Gordon, and Harold Gowing and well as her sister Winnifred. Lovingly remembered by her sons William (Karen) and Armand (Anita). Proud grandma to William Rickert (Bev), Wesley Rickert (Kathleen), Kirsten Hall (Mark), Wade Rickert, Gerrat Rickert (Christie), Darcy Rickert (Sue). Great grandma to Jennifer, Will Jr., Johnathon, Jaden, Alexander, Delaney, Ellis, Owen, Ben, Jess and Brook. Irene worked at General Springs and also as a lab technician at the University of Waterloo for many years. At home, she enjoyed cooking as well as entertaining her friends and family. She loved playing cards and spending time at her cottage with her family. In recent years Irene lived at Victoria Place Retirement Home in Kitchener since losing her eyesight when suffering a stroke in 2010. The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria Place for their help and loving care shown to Irene. A special thank you to Helena who always went the extra mile to make Irene comfortable. Irene's family will receive family and friends at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener (519-743-8900) from 11:00 a.m. until noon on Monday, February 13. Funeral service will be held in the Westmount Chapel the same day at 12 noon. Reception to follow. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Breslau. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
