Gertrude Rutz Kaden

1911-2012

Gert passed away peacefully at her home in Trinity Village Care Centre on Thursday January 19, 2012. She was predeceased by husband William (Bill) in February 1994 after 54 years of marriage.

Gert is survived by her loving son Terrence and Joan (Gannon), her beloved granddaughter Jody Elise and Sandy (McMillan) of Vancouver B.C. , and great grandson Cole Kaden McMillan.

Gert was the last surviving member of the Rutz family of eight siblings- Annie Rutz, (Ottawa), Helen Barnett (Ottawa), Ida Rutz (Long Island New York), Elmer (Pembroke), Bert (Pembroke), infant Alfred (Rankin) and Verner (Waterloo).

Gert will be missed by her many nieces and nephews who were very special to her, by Kaden and Rutz family members and the many people she touched with her warmth, kindness, hard work and humour throughtout her long and active life. She was a devoted member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, enjoying her membership in the Quilters Group and volunteering in the Loaves and Fishes program. She always appreciated the Golden Hours radio broadcast which became even more special to her in her later years. Gert was also an active member of Brilliant and Chrystal Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years, serving on the executive and sharing her creative talents for many fundraising activities.

The family wishes to thank the Oakridge Staff and Recreation Staff at Trinity Village Care Centre who lovingly cared for Mom since 2005. At mom’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held. A Memorial service celebrating Gert’s life will be held in the Chapel at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Benton St., Kitchener, at 1:00pm. on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
