I've always been a hugger. Dad was a good hugger too! Before leaving after a visit, I would always give dad a big hug. He'd even give me a hug just for the heck of it. Sometimes those hugs turned into "bear hugs" -  if dad was in a playful mood. When dad would give you a bear hug, he'd squeeze so hard that you finally had to say, "Uhhhh".  He'd just chuckle and let go. There were times when I'd try to squeeze him as hard as he was squeezing me, but my bear hugs were nowhere near as strong as his and I usually ended up giving up lol. One time when I was over for a visit, I went to give him a good bye hug. He was in one of his playful moods and started giving me one of his bear hugs. Naturally, I tried to squeeze back but the more I tried, the stronger his hug became. Then all of a sudden I felt a "pop" in my chest. It didn't hurt so I just shrugged it off like I usually did. But later on, the pain in my chest started and just got worse. I went to have it checked out and was told that my rib was cracked. I knew where that came from lol. When I got home I called dad and told him, "No more bear hugs....you cracked my rib with the last one" and laughed. From then on whenever I'd go to give him a hug, I always told him to "be gentle with me" and laugh :) This happened just this past summer. Oh what I would give for just one more of dad's bear hugs!!!! BIG HUGS dad!

When I was small, I didn't have a teddy bear....I had a monkey. I love my cats, but if I couldn't have had a monkey, I would have been in Heaven.  Anyway, what I did one day was put together a little story about my mom and dad - made up with monkeys.

Fred we can not thank you enough for all the wonderful memories you made with us. But today is going to be a rough day. I can not thank you enough for how amazing you where to my mother you taught her how to love again. You always treated us like family  as we became your family. The memories you made with us we will cherish forever. Your stories of how you came to came to Canada with nothing and made a life here is a inspiration to anyone. We are going to miss you so much and I know in heaven you are going to watch over all of us. We love you so much. The kids miss there Papa so much. You had a heart a gold to everyone. We love you Fred and most of all thank you for making my Mom smile all these years.  As I look out the window this morning the ground is covered with snow and all I think is you brought the snow for kids to bring a little happiness to them today. We love and miss you so much. 

This is a pic of our home in New Dundee. It was an aerial view taken before dad did the upgrades on the house such as a carport on the front and making of a cozy little sun room in place of the front porch. Unfortunately, I don't have a pic of what it looked like after dad owned this home and land for 40 years. It was our little Garden of Eden on Earth.

If I ever mentioned to dad too many times about something I wanted to do, he would just show up with plans and tools in hand.  That's how I ended up getting a roof over my back deck, and then a fantastic playhouse and swing set for Aleah.  He was always there to support with his skill and knowledge. 
Unpredictable.   Yes.   He told Flora he was going for milk, and would come home with a new living room outfit or a big screen TV.   He sometimes made me his partner in crime, since I would be the driver.  If we were gone too long, Flora was suspicious.  I'm going to miss all this. RIP Dad!

So sorry for your loss!   I remember a lot of stories about your Dad’s antics (taking my parents bed out of their house during a party).  I have very fond memories of both your parents.  Thinking of you during this very difficult time.  

We are sorry for the loss of a father, brother, grampa, friend and Neighbor .  We were very fortunate to meet Fred through our friend flora.  We went on a trip with Fred and flora and a bond was formed.  Fred came to our cottage and helped John with our deck as Fred was very knowledgeable and handy,  Fred had a great laugh and could tell a good tale and joke or two. We will miss your happy spirit  RIP
