Predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Green (nee Straus), Alan lived his final days with grace, humanity and humility. He rests now in the fulfillment of God’s love and life.
He will be sorely missed by his children, Jenn (Craig) and Dave (Silvia), his grandchildren Grace and Ross, his sister Julia, his sister-in-law Christine, nieces Eloise, Abigail, nephew Tom (Laura), great-nieces Minnie and Marah and his many dear friends here in Canada and in England.
Alan had a fruitful life of service as a priest, a missionary and a teacher at St. Jerome’s High School, Resurrection High School and St. Louis Continuing Education. His last job was as a travel agent, which allowed him to indulge his love of travel to the fullest. Alan was a lover of soccer and participated as a coach, referee and fan. While never a gourmet cook, he enjoyed his food and would often gush about the banquet or feast placed before him, and while he always ate his fill, he always had room for more dessert.
Alan was a keen proponent of social justice, speaking truth to power and helping anyone who needed it. The world is better for him having been in it.
A huge debt of gratitude to Dr. Trussler, Dr. Moolman, Heather, Amanda, Monika and all the staff at Freeport Palliative Care unit, who made Alan’s last days comfortable and dignified. You are truly heaven-sent.
