Margaret “Peg” O’Brien, 94, of Kissimmee, FL passed away on April 20, 2012. Born October 5, 1917 in Jamestown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward James O’Brien and the late Rachel Woods O’Brien. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Randall “Mac” McIntyre, and her son, Richard McIntyre.
Survivors include her two sons, James E. McIntyre and Tom McIntyre (Beverly); two grandchildren, Kimberly A. Early (Richard) and James E. McIntyre, Jr. (Beth); four step-grandchildren, Michelle Oakes, Matthew Oakes, Kristin Craig, and Eric Craig; and six great-grandchildren, Alexandra Early, Nicole McIntyre, Rachel Early, Elizabeth Early, Zachary McIntyre, and Joshua McIntyre.
Margaret retired from the Youngstown Board of Education having worked at Garfield & Sheridan Elementary as well as Chaney High Schools in Youngstown, OH. She moved to Port St. Lucie, FL in the early 1980s from Youngstown and became a resident of The Good Samaritan Society – Kissimmee Village in 1990.
Margaret had a rich, full life filled with laughter and fun. Her favorite times were centered on water. She raised her children with a passion for boating due to the countless weekends spent on Lake Erie, a tradition that has been passed down for generations. Margaret “baited her own hook” and caught walleye & perch which she prepared for lots of family meals. Peg and Mac belonged to boat clubs which took them to many ports around the southern United States. In more recent times, Margaret enjoyed being a member of the “Aqua Buffs” synchronized swimming team at Good Samaritan. Margaret had a strong belief that Jesus was her savior and that he ruled her life through his love and grace.
The McIntyre family will forever miss our wonderful matriarch, but we are blessed for having her in our lives for many years. We are thankful for her many friends, nurses and caregivers at Good Samaritan. Each of you made a difference in her life and our family is forever grateful.
A memorial will be held on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at The Good Samaritan Society - Kissimmee Village with Rev. Tim Nordstrom officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Margaret’s memory to Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care, 2445 Lake Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
