Janet Killmore Wolek

Janet K. Wolek, went to heaven on Friday 1/10/2014 after a long battle with a debilitating illness. She passed away at home surrounded by her family. A service in remembrance of Janet’s life will be held on Sunday, Jan 19, 2014 at 5:00pm at the Des Cummings Sr. Memorial Chapel located inside the Celebration Hospital. In lieu of flowers the family has set up a special fund in her name. Janet K. Wolek was born on September 29, 1954 on Onondaga Hill in Syracuse, NY to Harold B.(deceased) and Lois (Depriest) Killmore. Along with her loving Husband, Ronald Henry Wolek, Janet is survived by her Son, Ronald Harold Wolek of Kissimmee, FL, her Daughter, Janelle Helen Wolek of Tampa, FL, and Mother, Lois Killmore and Brother, Neil Killmore of Syracuse, NY.

Janet K. Wolek graduated from West Hill High in 1972, received her cosmetology licensed in 1973 from Contemporary Beauty School, and studied advanced hair design in Toronto, Canada. She married her husband, Ronald Henry in 1978, her first child, Ronald Harold was born in 1982 and her daughter Janelle Helen was born in 1984. In 1989 Janet relocated her family to Kissimmee, Fl after being hired into the Creative Cosmetology Department at Walt Disney World upon the opening of the new Disney-MGM Studios theme park. Janet spent close to 40 years in the beauty industry as a beautician, hair and makeup artist, wig stylist, and special effects artist. Her career at the world famous Disney Creative Cosmetology Department was long and eventful, spanning every position and opportunity made available within it, including wig and makeup designer and retiring as a manager in 2010. Janet also worked with the biggest celebrities of her era through events, films, television, and many stage productions that came to Central Florida. Janet won many honors, including the Disney Corporations's prestigious Partners in Excellence Award. Her team work won her a 2005 Daytime Emmy for the Disney World Christmas Parade. She was the most proud of her Presidential Award of Service from President Obama that she earned through voluntary community service at Disney. In 2009 Janet was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and survived, which was another accomplishment after learning statistically only 2% of women with her cancer survive. She spent her retirement volunteering for the Celebration Hospital Better Breathers Pulmonary Rehabilitation, attending the Celebration Seventh Day Adventist Church, creating crafts, and caring for her dogs Foxy and Lexi. In tribute to his mother, her Son, Ronald Harold also became a hair and makeup artist. At one time, Janet managed the east coast Magic Kingdom cosmetology team while her son managed the west coast Disneyland Cosmetology team simultaneously, making Disney company history. Inspired by her mother's experience, Janet's Daughter Janelle Helen now works as a Registered Nurse after she finished her duty in the United States Air Force. Janet had a gift of making everyone who crossed her path feel special. Through a magical touch for Cosmetology she became a leader, role model, and inspiration for many within the central Florida community.
