Emma Irene Balogh was Born November 24, 1924 a Lethbridge, Alberta to Balasz and Irma Bagu, the eleventh of fourteen children, the first ten from her father’s first wife who died in childbirth. They moved to Kipling in 1925 to the Bekevar District onto the family farm. Emma took grades 1-8 at Saffordia Country School.
Emma loved helping her grandmother with mid-wife duties, enjoyed community gatherings and taught Sunday school.
Emma married Steve Balogh Jr. on October 26, 1943 and they farmed in the Hazel Valley District, spent one winter in Halifax, NS, and moved to Langbank District in 1949 to continue farming, where they were blessed with good friends and neighbours. They adopted their son, Lyle Stephen, in 1955 and their daughter, Sharon Elizabeth, in 1959. Their family was complete.
Emma enjoyed ball, curling, fishing, gardening, cooking, weekends at their Kenosee lake cottage, visiting and listening to the old country gospel hymns, going to church, and going south in the winters of their retirement years. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy and her great grandchildren her “cherry on the cake!”
In October, 1987 Emma said goodbye to her husband of 44 years as Steve died of cancer.
