Thomas Edward Graf

Tom was born January 20, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri to Mary Elizabeth Graf and Ernest Edward Graf and later became a big brother to Jim, Steve, John, and Paul. As a child he enjoyed history, tinkering with various tools, and had a passion for the sea which led to his enrollment in the United States Coast Guard Academy. During his 9 years of service, he met his wife Iris while stationed in New York. They wed May 17, 1981. He went on to graduate with a masters in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan, and pursued his dream of becoming a Naval Architect. On April 8, 1988 he welcomed the prides of his life, Meredith and Rebecca. As a family they will miss his witty sense of humor, words of wisdom, and unwavering support. An avid woodworker, Tom often made furniture and even led the renovation of his wife’s Synagogue, Temple Beth Torah. His friends will remember Tom’s passion for ships and all things maritime, which led to hours of conversation, and learning facts only Tom would know. Later in life, he joined Palmer Episcopal Church and was a member of the Change Ringers, a bell ringing group.

In his last years, he was surrounded by unconditional love from his wife and his daughters. Iris was at his side as he drew his final breath. His memory will live on as a blessing to all who knew him.

Survived by his wife, Iris Graf; daughters Meredith Michaud and Rebecca Graf; brothers Jim, Steve, John, and Paul Graf; son-in-law Ian Michaud; mother-in-law Rose Lerner and numerous other loving family and friends.
