Dear Ernie, Peggy and family,

Rosie and I would drive to a home in a neighboring town at Christmas time and park outside.  We gazed through the front window at a massive pink hot air balloon that the family used instead of a Christmas tree.  They gathered and placed their presents around the base of the balloon and at night, they had a spotlight shining on it.  We would sit there and laugh until we cried.  We had the same sense of humor and would burst in to gales of laughter when others scratched their heads in wonder.  Maybe we were the crazy ones, but we had such a good time together.

I wrote this in a private letter to you, Peggy, but I want to share it here as well...others need to know that her teaching face was no act. She loved the art of teaching and her students deeply.
“I have a picture of your mom at LHS in the teacher's lounge....  She is holding a stack of essays that her students had completed...and she held them with such, oh, I don't know the right word...reverence?  ...like she was holding precious gold in her hands!  That is how she cherished everything her students produced even if and when they weren't perfect.  They were all in the process of "becoming," and she was honored to be part of that process.  What a tribute to fine teaching she was!” 

I will miss Rosie so much.  I pray you all find peace and comfort in knowing how well loved she was.  Hold all the good memories in your hearts.

What an exceptional lady!  She was a friend, a neighbor, and a teacher to me and many others.  She is one of the reasons I became a teacher, and I still hope that one day I may be as great of one to my students as she was to us.  I know that she is smiling down on everybody from Heaven.  She will be dearly missed.

Your mom came to Leland as I was getting close to the end of my HS days- what a joy she was in the classroom, she always had a smile and encouraged us. She shared much and you will be blessed by the memories you have of her life and your growing up years. I am certain she loved every minute in TX as well.

We have many great memories or our moms chatting at the kitchen table.  Keep the memories close.

Rosemary was my favorite teacher. She shared with me the love of reading and would always give me new books in the library first. She was a gifted lady and touched many lives. She lives on as part of my memories of high school. God bless you in this time of loss. Marnie McDaniel
