Born to Willie and Ethel Martin on December 19, 1937. He is preceded in death by his brother Larry Martin and sisters Ottalee Hix and Oleta Rutledge. Quanah is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley Martin, his four sons Quanah Martin Jr., Michael Martin Sr. and wife Pam, David Martin Sr., and James Martin Sr. and wife Karen, 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Quanah grew up in OST acres where he met his loving wife, Shirley Phillips. Starting as neighbors when they were young children, and falling in love in their teen years, Quanah and Shirley were married August 24, 1956, spending 68 love-filled years together. Quanah worked for Gray Tool Company for 20 years before founding QM Company in January of 1975.
Quanah was a proud father to four sons. He taught them to fish, drive, how to work hard, to love your family and how to be good fathers. He was immensely proud of them.
A family man through and through, Quanah took pride in being Pawpaw to his many grandchildren. He spent many years taking them on trips around Houston and to Garner State Park. Every summer he camped with his family in Garner, gathering everyone for meals, and loved watching everyone enjoy their days in the river and their nights at the dance. Quanah loved dancing and taught his many grandkids how to dance.
Quanah was an active member of his church and Sunday school class. He loved lunches and game times with them and especially loved playing dominos, which he enjoyed teaching to others and playing with whoever wanted to join him at the table.
Quanah never met a stranger, and once you were a friend, you were a friend for life. His kindness and love will continue to live on in his family and friends, all whom he loved so dearly.
