It saddens me that I learn of the loss of my Dad on Father's Day. No answer to my texts. I thank you for being my father (not Papa) for 11 years. That's longer than I had my Daddy (4 years) and then my stepdad (5 years). I love you with all my heart and will miss being your Sweetie. 

Like many others, he “adopted” my family and I as his family. So many memories. He was there the day my kids and I showed up to our rental and met the congregation for the first time as they were unloading all of our things. Sitting with him and hearing his stories, from the marines, his early married days, and most recently how much he missed his bride. We were blessed to have him join us for  Christmas Day a few years back and we loved having a grandpa figure with us. He was adamant that the children were children, not kids, they were not goats he would remind me, and not rugrats  either as he vividly remembered his childhood and where the term rugrats came from. Children were too precious to our Lord, and to him, to call them something like that. I’ll never forget our last hug just over a week before he passed, the love and strength still in his arms. Thankful he is at peace and rest now, but there will always be a hole in our hearts where his presence is missed. 

Lowell was PaPa to all of the kids. He always included me as one of his great grandkids. I didn't get to see him often but I always loved his hugs when I did. I loved him as if he was my own PaPa. I will miss him.

One of my favorite memories with PaPa, was when he told me to call him “PaPa”. I had known him for a couple years, and he looked at me and said,” You’re like a grand-daughter to me, part of my family, I would be honored to be your PaPa.” From then on, he was no longer Bro. Ray, but he was my PaPa. I will always remember seeing him at church, giving him a huge hug and hearing one of his famous responses to my asking how he was: If I were any better, you couldn’t stand me! Followed by a wink and a 2nd hug! I love you and miss you PaPa! - Tatum

Although I didn’t know Ray as much as everyone really close to him, he held a special place in my heart. After I lost my grandfather in 2016 at the age of 57 years… PaPa began to call me his granddaughter. I know I was not the only person that was called this by him, but to me it meant the world. He filled a big void in my heart & the chance to call someone grandpa again. I always longed to see him every summer meeting at College Park! I will definitely miss his tight hugs and bright smile. I’m so blessed to have gotten to know him. I want y’all to know that y’all are in my thoughts & prayers. 

PaPa was always such a sweet face to see at church! Back when I was in college studying to become an educator, we had to do a case study where we interviewed a veteran to get their whole story. I loved hearing his stories! I finally asked if I could audio record it because I was just wanting to be in the moment and listening rather than taking notes. He was such a light to all of us that knew him!
