Joan Herrigel Brandt born August 23, 1929 in Hillside N.J. the 2nd of three children of Florence and Emil Herrigel passed away on October 7, 2017. A graduate of William Smith College in Geneva NY (now affiliated with Hobart as College of the Senecas), Joan taught school in New Jersey, New York and California. She met her husband Charles J. (Bud) Brandt through a mutual interest in skiing as members of the Plainfield NJ Ski Club. They married October 4, 1958 in Plainfield NJ and had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Joan left teaching after their first child was born in August of 1959. Skiing and camping trips became a family activity for many years. As her children grew, golf became a regular part of her life with many trips to Scotland as well as trips with a national seniors group. She played often as a member of Windyke Country Club in Memphis and later at Kingwood Country Club. Despite the scattering of friends from high school and college Joan remained in touch and enjoyed biannual reunions with eight close friends from college for the past 30 years. Traveling to Arizona in the spring and Maine in the summers provided time with friends and relatives from the years lived in New Jersey as well as several years in Memphis. The most wonderful wife, mother and grandmother a family could ask for, she leaves a lifetime of selfless caring and the fondest of memories with her husband, Bud, four children, James(Patty) of New Brighton MN, Susan Brandt Erlbacher of Dallas, Kathryn of Campbell TX, and David(Sandy) of Austin and eight grandchildren: Mary, Carl and Emily Brandt of New Brighton,MN; Eddie Erlbacher and Eva Stephens (Travis) of Dallas; Richard, Thomas and Anna Brandt of Austin; who all could always count on hearing Grandma sing happy birthday on their special day. Joan was a member of St. Martha’s Church in Kingwood for 37 years. Per her request, she will be cremated. A prayer service at 2:00 p.m. followed by a visitation/reception will be held at the Kingwood Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon October 22. In lieu of any flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
