Jackie Dan Townsend passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2016. Mr. Townsend was born in Brownwood, Texas on October 26,1942 and one of five children of Earl and Winnie Mae Townsend. He grew up in northeast Houston attending Smiley High School and had a Texas sized heart and loved everything that makes Texas great.
At the age of 24, Mr. Townsend started Townsend Machine, Inc. (TMI) and built it to one of Houston’s largest and most successful custom machine and precision tool businesses serving Houston’s growing oil and gas producers. He continued to work in his business up to his passing. His passion was serving TMI customers, providing high quality products, excellent customer service and loyalty to his employees. The company celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.
Jackie Townsend loved the outdoors and often enjoyed hunting and fishing with family, friends and customers of Townsend Machine, Inc. For over 35 years he was a devoted supporter of the Shriner’s Hospital for Children and St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital. He believed in the importance of supporting the local community and held membership with the Optimists Club and regularly financially contributed to local organizations and programs.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Kirk Allen Townsend. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 30 years, Mildred “Millie” Townsend, brothers, Robert, Fred and Harold Dean Townsend, his sister Sue Simpson, daughter Connie Townsend-Marvin, son Dan Townsend, step-daughters Yvette McMurray and Candace Crawford and nine grandchildren, Madison, Ashley, Ben, Sarah, Lauren, Luke, Kyla, Jake and Camilla.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 US 59, Kingwood, Texas 77339. If preferred, in lieu of flowers or plants, contributions to the Shriner’s and St. Jude’s Hospitals in memory of Jackie Dan Townsend are appreciated.
