James David Clyde entered a new life on September 26, 2022. David, as he was known to family and friends, never met a stranger. To him a stranger was a friend whose name he didn’t know. His outgoing personality blessed many during his time on Earth.
He was born August 9, 1945, to James P. Clyde and Martha Etta Compton Clyde in Spartanburg, SC. He grew up in the upstate region of South Carolina and north Georgia. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, SC and then from Furman University in Greenville, SC. In 1971, he graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.
On August 24, 1968, he married Beverly Jane Galphin Clyde whom he met at Furman University. Their life together began in Charleston, SC and continued for 54 years.
After graduating from medical school and a residency in Family Practice, Dr. Clyde joined the U. S. Air Force. He started family practice clinics at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. In 1976, he left the Air Force to start his medical practice in Anderson, SC. In 1988, he left private practice and began a career in corporate medicine working for major energy companies. He frequently travelled to other countries to set up medical care in remote regions. After 28 years he retired from corporate medicine. In retirement, David continued traveling the world; he and Beverly enjoyed cruising and road trips.
His Christian faith was the guiding force in his life. He worked and supported numerous ministries and served in many churches, but it was the way he treated others that demonstrated his love of Christ. His firm handshake and caring heart will be missed by family and friends alike.
David and his wife, Beverly, have two children, Christopher David and Shannon Elizabeth. Christopher and his wife, Melissa Hutubessy, have two children, Gavin Amandiwa and Sonia Larasati. Shannon and her husband, Allen Caldwell, have four children, Rebekah Elizabeth, Jonathan Allen, Alexander Bradley and Rachel Catherine. David is preceded in death by his parents, James and Martha Clyde. David is survived by his sisters, Peggy Anne Nutt and Betty Jean Hawks. James David Clyde was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Well done good and faithful servant.
