George was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 17, 1944 to Dr. George H. and Jane Erhard Rittenhouse. The Rittenhouse family was well known in the Pittsburgh area and highly regarded in the medical community.
George graduated from Upper St. Clair High School and was a track star. He then attended Salem University and American University collectively earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. George loved fast cars and keg beer. It was Pittsburgh where he met the love of his life Judith Borrelli. It is rumored that he won her affection by walking on his hands.
George began his career launching an entrepreneurial venture before joining Atlantic Petroleum (Arco), commencing a 40 year career. His assignments required moves through Pennsylvanian, West Virginia, Ohio, California and Texas. His last assignment was Global Senior Manager for procurement and supply chain logistics for LyondellBasell when he retired in 2008.
Family was George’s passion, pride and joy. Over their 57 year marriage, he and Judy built a beautiful family of sixteen and he was very active in their lives. While loving to host annual family beach trips, George loved to travel, taking trips all over the world including many Seadream adventures. He loved sports and was always willing to try (without perfecting) snow skiing, golf and fishing. George loved martinis, hot dogs, a good steak, cherry pie and always made incredible salads.
George is survived by his loving wife Judy; his three daughters and their husbands Hillary and Doug Dormer, Dunovan and Griff Thomas, Morgan and Colin Vadheim; his as eight grandchildren McClain, Jackson and George Dormer; Megan, Lindsey and Ashley Thomas; and Ryan and CJ Vadheim. He is also survived by his sister Melinda (“Lin”) and Doug Roderick and his brother Charlie Rittenhouse. The family would to thank Ryan Beals of Amare Vida and his amazing staff. Bye for now.
There will be a funeral mass at the Holy Family Chapel of St. Martha Catholic Church in Kingwood, Texas on Monday November 25th at 11:00am, followed by a celebration of life reception at Deerwood Country Club.
