Mr. Grana was born September 7, 1935 in Waukegan, Illinois. He spent his first 17 years in Waukegan and then joined the Army. He was a soldier who loved his country and spent 28 years devoted to it. He was proud paratrooper and infantry man. His first deployment was the Korean war where he earned his first purple heart. He was deployed during the Panama conflict. He then went to Vietnam where he was severely injured and spent 13 months in the hospital and could no longer be an infantry man, he became a Career Counselor until he was medically retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ignatia and David, his sister Antoinette and his grandson David. He leaves behind his sister, Josephine Jones, his loving wife of 42 years, Jana L. Grana, Son Dwight Grana, Stepdaughter Deborah Cooney, Stepson Dwayne DeWeerd and wife Jennifer, Stepdaughter Darla King and husband Ryan, 7 grandchildren: Krystle Chenault, Josh Bartee, Heather Metelski, Ashley Willcox, Kayla DeWeerd, Logan King, Ella King and 8 great-grandchildren: Brandon Warren, Rider Chenault, Harley Bartee, Finley Bartee, Easton Metelski, Harper Willcox, and twins Jensen and Presley Willcox.
David was a proud Army man who will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice and their dedication team who assisted in his care: Saira, Raven, Brandy and Angeline, Jana would like to give special thanks to her daughter, Deborah, for assisting around the clock to care for Mr. Grana in his final days.
Mr. Grana will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, at future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St.Judes Children's Research Hospital in his name would be preferred.
