Charlene Vallee Holmes of Westwego, La., passed away in Houston, Texas on June 16th, 2014 at the age of 64. She was born August 22nd, 1949 to Reginald C. Vallee (decd.) and Iona Vallee, and was the oldest of three children. She attended West Jefferson High School, and Southeastern University where she obtained a Bachelors degree in Education.
Shortly after graduation she married her high school sweetheart Lewis Daniel Holmes Jr., and they were blessed with two children. They eventually settled in New Orleans, and it was there she pursued her passion of teaching English at L.W. Higgins High School. In 1996 she moved to Kingwood, TX and was actively teaching for the remainder of her life at Kingwood Park High School, where she received teacher of the year in 2000-2001. Overall she taught for over 43 years, and touched hundreds, if not thousands of lives.
She is survived by her husband Lewis Holmes Jr., her mother Iona Vallee, brothers Timothy (Elaine) and Tommy (Susie) Vallee and their families, children Michael Holmes (Valerie) and Katie McCracken (Sean), and grandchildren Matthew Kikuchi, Allison Holmes, Samuel Holmes, and Liam McCracken.
She loved to read, and was active in a local Kingwood book club. She was also an avid Shakespeare fan, and it was one of her favorite subjects to teach. While in Louisiana, she was active in the Bulldog Club of Louisiana and The Daughters of The American Revolution. She was past president of the Bulldog Club for Louisiana. She loved to travel, and visited Paris, London, and frequently the Smokey Mountains in the fall. However, her favorite thing in the world was spending time with family, and there is nothing she enjoyed doing more than spoiling her grandchildren.
Visitation with family and friends will be from 5:00 until 7:00 on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Kingwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in the funeral home chapel.
