Antonia O. Hernandez of Humble, Texas took Our Lord’s hand at home on January 20, 2024 at the age of 97. She was born in Columbus, Texas on January 17, 1927 to Genevieve and Jesus Ojeda. She was the second oldest of thirteen children. Antonia (Toni) married Antonio (Tony) Hernandez on December 15, 1951.
Antonia was a faithful member of Christ Presbyterian Church of Houston, Texas. She was a member of the choir and a frequent soprano soloist. After graduating from high school, Antonia earned her degree from Elliott Business College on a scholarship program. She also was awarded a Continuing Education Certificate in Retail from the University of Houston. Antonia was a Foley’s Department Store Associate for over 30 years, retiring as a personal shopper for corporate clients. She was a wife, mother, caregiver, cook, and gardener. She loved to sing, travel, crochet, and sew. Antonia was a fashion influencer before her time. She loved Christian, classical, broadway, country, and pop music.
Antonia was preceded in death by her husband Antonio, her parents Genevieve and Jesus Ojeda, brothers Fermin Ojeda, Pedro Ojeda, and sister Eugenia Sanner.
She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Thompson of California, Deborah Diver, husband Mike and family of Texas, her siblings Benina Trevino, Virginia and husband Bill Davis, Marie Zakoor, Jose Ojeda and wife Ruby, Angel Ojeda and wife Esther, Rafael Ojeda and wife Selina, Jesus Ojeda, Carlos Ojeda, Rosendo Ojeda, and numerous family members and friends.
Daughters Elizabeth and Deborah give a special thank you to Brian, Mike, Martha and Mando for their extraordinary support especially during the last twelve years of continuous care for their parents. The family would also like to thank the caring staff of Bayou City Hospice.
Services will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Houston.
