Maria Guadalupe “Lupita” Hernandez, 63, passed away in Austin on January 18, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Lupita was born in Raymondville on May 31, 1947 to Josefa and Luis Castillo. She was a resident of Riviera, Texas for the past 25 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Riviera and was a member of the Guadalupanas.
Lupita loved cooking, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Mimi was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will forever be missed and never forgotten.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Teodoro, Samuel and Richard Castillo.
Lupita is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Gavino; daughter, Diana (Sam) Guerrero and their children, Clarissa, Gabriella and Victoria of Pflugerville, Texas; daughther, Yolanda (Eddie) Longoria and their children, Mikayla, Adam and Jazmin, of Pflugerville; sister, Magdalena Lerma, of Baytown, Texas; brother, Luis Castillo, Jr of Raymondville, Texas; brother-in-law, Augustin (Queta) Hernandez of Ontario, California; sister-in-law, Sofia (Gilberto) Tamez of Rockport, Texas; brother-in-law, Heriberto (Olivia) of Brownsville, Texas; sister-in-law, Perla (Joe) Cruz of Diboll, Texas; sister-in-law, Celia (the late Guadalupe, Jr.) Hernandez of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Those also left behind to cherish her memory include extended relatives, community and church friends, and former co-workers.
Visitation will take place after 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited by Luke Womack at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel, Kingsville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Riviera, with Fr. Peter Antony as celebrant. Burial will follow in Riviera at the Riviera Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Adam Longoria. Pallbearers will be Sam Guerrero, Eddie Longoria, Frank D. Lerma, Danny Solis, Xavier Hernandez and Phillip Linder.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Maria G Hernandez may be made to Heart Specialty Care and Transplant Center for Patient Assistance, 1301 W 38th St., Suite 514, Austin, Texas 78705.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
