Jose Antonio “Tony” Galvan, age 57, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on February 8, 1954 to Manuel Galvan Jr. and Guadalupe Leal Galvan. Mr. Galvan was a former employee for the City of Kingsville working for the water department until his retirement. Tony was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. He was presently president of St. Joseph’s Mutualistas Religious Society in care of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Tony was a member of the Mutualistas for over 30 years. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2623. During elections, Tony was a presiding election judge for precint 21 for over 25 years. Tony was actively involved in the community and established the Maria G. Galvan Scholarship program which provided monetary funds to students to further their education.
Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria G. Galvan; and daughter, Jessica Marie Galvan; and parents.
He is survived by two daughters, Mariza (Rogelio) Galvan Baltazar and Mariliza (Guadalupe) Galvan Garcia, both of Kingsville; two brothers, Rigoberto (Tina) Galvan of Kingsville and Juan Manuel (Linda) Galvan of The Colony, Texas; two sisters, Olga (Ventura) Gonzalez of Kingsville and Josefina Morales of Hidalgo, Texas; one grandson, Isaac Anthony Garcia; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Thenan as celebrant. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
