Walter Ray “Bud” Mullins, age 81, passed away unexpectedly at Holston Valley on March 17, 2012. He was born in Kingsport and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was born to the late Horrie and Mary Belle Tate Mullins. Walter was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Patsy Allen Mullins; brother, Wayne Mullins; sisters, Freda Mullins and Lorene Snapp.
He graduated from Cleveland High School in Scott County, Va. , and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed the Kingsport Press, where he met his wife, Patsy. He later worked for the Kingsport Times News and retired from Mason-Dixon Trucking. He enjoyed traveling and photography and was very active at the Kingsport Senior Center. He received several gold metals including National Champion of Shuffleboard for the Senior Olympics. Walter was a member of Cowan’s Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Danny Mullins and wife Sonja of Ooltewah, David Mullins and wife Lisa of Limestone, Donnie Mullins and wife Freida of Greer, S.C.; two daughters, Denise Wooten and husband Mike of Kingsport, Dede Mullins of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Brian Mullins, Scott Mullins, Matthew Mullins, Andrew Mullins, Amy Wooten Fugate, Joey Wooten; one great grandchild, Brennan Fugate; two brothers, Gene Mullins, Emory Mullins; four sisters, Carolyn Leftwich, June Begley, Cleo Cleek, Letha Mullins, special uncle and aunt, Lloyd and Jamie Tate; several nieces and nephews; special friend and companion, Joyce Manis. The family will receive friends Monday, March 19, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, at 12 noon at East Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsport Senior Center.
